Description

Nanotechnology is the discipline of designing, fabricating and controlling materials and components with dimensions on the nanoscale, i.e. from 1 to 100 nm. By constructing materials and devices atom by atom or molecule by molecule, it is possible to obtain decisive control over their properties and develop unique materials with new and unexpected properties for applications within communication, data storage and data processing, (bio)sensors, catalysis or medicine just to mention a few areas.

Students of the programme are educated in an innovative, dynamic and challenging environment through a combination of research-based teaching, team-based project work and a high degree of interaction with industrial partners.

The University of Aalborg offers state-of-the-art laboratory facilities including a class 100 clean room holding modern equipment for micro and nanoscale fabrication and characterization (www.nanolab.aau.dk) as well as a new, fully equipped biochemistry lab, a class 1 area and state-of-the-art biophysical investigation equipment.

As a graduate you will possess knowledge in the major areas within nanobiotechnology that covers advanced gene technology, reaction engineering, high throughput systems, drug discovery, molecular electronics, molecular simulations, self-assembling systems, drug delivery systems, properties of interfaces, and spectroscopic methods such as MS and NMR. And you will be able to understand and reflect over theory, methods and experiments within the mentioned areas.

Career Opportunities

Nanobiotechnology is rapidly gaining ground in the traditional engineering areas such as material science, electronics, energy, biotechnology, medicine, and health science and technology in general. With a Master’s degree in Nanobiotechnology you can enter any of these engineering fields and contribute with new knowledge and methods as well as look at different ideas from a new perspective, which can help to develop new products.

Admission

A relevant Bachelor’s degree in natural sciences, materials science, or biotechnology is necessary in order to be accepted for enrolment. Each applicant will receive individual assessment by the Study Board in charge of the Nanotechnology education at Aalborg University.

In addition, documentation will be required to verify that your proficiency in English is at an acceptable level.
