Description
As a graduate student in the Environmental Science programme, you will work with projects from different areas of environmental science, for example climate-friendly energy production, sustainable agricultural or industrial production, or development of new and innovative technology for preventing soil, air or water contamination.The programme is cross disciplinary and you will use your knowledge of chemistry, physics, biology and microbiology to investigate and solve environmental challenges in cities, industry, agriculture and nature. This makes it possible for you to work with not only energy from biomass and waste, but also biological air cleaning in industry and animal farming, methods for rapid detection of bacteria in drinking water, biological methods for assessment of water quality in rivers and lakes or improvement of indoor climate in buildings at contaminated soil sites.
Through the programme you will learn both to prevent and to solve a wide range of environmental problems, as well as acquire the competences and tools that you will need to actively participate in the development of our society in a sustainable direction.
Career Opportunities
As an environmental engineer you can choose a career in the public service such as the technical department in municipalities or counties where you can work with regeneration of natural areas, environmental control of agriculture and industry or management of contamination cases.Other career paths involve:
- Consulting engineer in the private sector working with environmental management and optimisation of the production or innovation, development and marketing of new green technology;
- Work in ministries or public governments where you will put your fingerprint on the future environmental policy and
- Research and teaching within the university system where you can be part of the invention and development of methods and technologies for a future, more sustainable society
