International students in Denmark

Headline

The Royal Danish Academy builds on strong traditions within the three subject areas - Architecture, Conservation and Design. The academy strives towards the preservation of culture and nature, and the design of physical objects and environments to internationally recognised standards.

The education at the Royal Danish Academy is based on a combination of theory and practice. A substantial part of the teaching takes place at the drawing board and in workshops, and in joint presentations and academic seminars in small units of teachers and students.

Many of the teachers come directly from the business community and practice. For instance, architecture has approx. 120 and design approx. 80 parttime teachers each term who lecture for a short or longer period of time in addition to their work in practice and in the business community.

Duration 2 years
Tuition per term (Non-EU/EAA/CH) 7000 EUR

Website https://royaldanishacademy.com//programme/architecture-and-extreme-environments

Description

This Master programme pursues to explore the intersection between architecture, technology, culture and environment. Through a site-specific approach, we aim to respond to present and future global challenges through 'research by design' and direct 'on-site involvement' in the form of active expeditions to remote world locations where prototypes are put to the test.

In close collaboration with local communities, science and manufacturers, this Master course engages with architectural performance, from component to building design, and the cultural impact of technology in our world through high-end design aesthetics.

We mediate our presence in our environment via design and technology, often disregarding the environmental impact. It is our intention to investigate the design potential in working with technology not only as a performance orientated design parameter, but also as a process charged with aesthetic potential and cultural implications with sustainable aims, from building scale all the way to detail.

Political Architecture: Critical Sustainability | Master 2 years

Political Architecture: Critical Sustainability

Master (2 years) of Architecture, 120 ECTS
Architecture, design and visual arts

Institution Royal Danish Academy - Architecture, Design and Conservation
Campus Copenhagen
Duration 2 years
Tuition per term (Non-EU/EAA/CH) 7000 EUR
Tuition per term (EU/EAA/CH) 0 EUR
Website https://royaldanishacademy.com/programme/political-architecture-critical-sustainability

Description

Political Architecture is our primary object and concern – a question and a statement in one. If politics pertains to the guidance and advancement of resources and forces in society, political architecture builds on an awareness of architecture complicit with politics – that is, its more or less directly designated role in political regulations of society and social life. Yet what architecture can do reaches beyond deliberate politics. Specifically, we ask what architecture does and can do in regions on the planet where critical attention toward matters of societal resilience and development are more urgent than elsewhere. Thus, Critical Sustainability recognizes an urgent political task: to question the currently prevailing doctrines of architectural sustainability and to develop intellectually probing and architecturally daring alternatives.

Urbanism and Societal Change

Master (2 years) of Architecture, 120 ECTS

Campus Copenhagen
Duration 2 years
Tuition per term (Non-EU/EAA/CH) 7000 EUR
Tuition per term (EU/EAA/CH) 0 EUR
Website https://royaldanishacademy.com/programme/urbanism-and-societal-change

Description

MA in Urbanism and Societal Change is based upon the ambitions to a) embed the architectural/urban project within the dynamic conditions of contemporary society, b) couple research and design within the project process, and c) train future architects as leading actors in the sustainable development of the built environment.

Profound societal transformations, ranging from economic to demographic shifts, and altered resource availability to climatic change indicate that we can no longer expect the future conditions of the discipline to be an extrapolation of the past. These emerging conditions challenge conventional understandings of urban spatial organization and the role of the architect and planner. In this context the capacity of architects to identify, understand and respond to these new conditions affecting the discipline becomes increasingly crucial.
