The Academy specialises in the education and training of classical musicians at the highest international level and cooperates with leading conservatories across the United States, Europe and China. Its strong international profile attracts students, faculty and guest teachers from all over the world. All programmes except for music teaching are available in English, which is also spoken by both Faculty and students.

Teaching methods at The Royal Danish Academy of Music (RDAM) foster and develop each student’s individual artistic profile in both technical skills and musical expression. Faculty have solid pedagogical skills coupled with years of artistic experience as both educators and professional artists.

Modern Practice facilities
Acoustically outstanding concert halls, practicing rooms and professional recording facilities provide the perfect conditions for rapid artistic development. Students can practice from early morning to late evening and easily book RDAM’s many practice rooms using the online booking system.

Ambitious and collaborative environment
RDAM takes care to foster an ambitious and mutually supportive and collaborative student environment. Every year, students take home prestigious awards from competitions all over the globe. RDAM is very active in the professional music scene in Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark. The Academy collaborates with the Danish Broadcasting Cooperation as well as established organisations from the professional music scene, including national symphony orchestra, choirs and ensembles.

Masterclasses across continents
Students at RDAM are regularly invited to participate in masterclasses with internationally renowned artists. Masterclasses take place both at RDAM and via Distance Learning Technology, which is an important supplement to the teaching and learning environment. In the era of climate change Distance Learning helps us limit carbon emissions by providing unique opportunities for students to receive instruction from teachers across the globe without having to travel.

Description

As a postgraduate student of teaching aural training, you will be part of a small, but exclusive group. 1-2 students are accepted every year. The study programme is divided into two lines. Both lines include a high professional level of aural training didactics. You choose between specialising in teaching on academy level or teaching on beginner- and intermediate level.

Career Opportunities

The course is to a large degree a specialising course emphasising on making it as practical as possible to apply both in teaching and when performing.

About the degree

The Master's programme in Aural Training is offered only in Danish.

Description

As a student of the organ, you will receive tuition in the principal studies of solo and liturgical organ playing. You will learn all the various aspects of playing the instrument, and acquire improvisational, artistic and technical skills, as well as an advanced level of theoretical knowledge. You will also receive tuition in choral conducting, chamber music, and a number of specialised church music subjects.

The practical church service experience is organised in co-operation with the Pastoral Seminary, which also provides practical training for Danish church ministers. This is designed to provide you with a solid foundation to prepare you for your professional musical life, in close  collaboration with the profession for which you are being trained.

Description

Description

Following the Master's degree, the graduate is able to apply for admission to the Advanced Postgraduate programme which has the duration of two years, and concludes with a public debut concert.

You will work with performance practice-related issues, and learn to seek information from relevant sources and express yourself in writing. The study programme in early music attracts some of the best teachers and artists in the field. Accordingly, part of the tuition takes the form of project work and master classes in an international environment.

Description

As a ensemble conductor or orchestral conductor, your principal study will be in conducting. As an ensemble conductor, you will work with string and wind ensembles and big bands, and can function as an ensemble leader in both amateur and semi-professional music. Practical ensemble conducting will form an important part of the student's education. Here the student will be able to work intensively to develop and perfect his/hers conducting technique, and be coached in artistic interpretation and implementation.

Career Opportunities

Students of both ensemble and orchestral conducting will make the acquaintance of professionally-relevant ensembles. The Academy has good co-operation agreements with Copenhagen ensembles and the Danish regional orchestras.

Description

As a student in the three or four-year orchestral conductor programme, you will specialise in the many possibilities of the symphony orchestra. To support your conducting, you will receive tuition in the analysis of form and structure, instrumentation, aural studies and coaching with répétiteur. Practical ensemble experience will form an important part of your education. Here you will be able to work intensively to perfect your conducting technique, and you will be coached in artistic interpretation and implementation.

The Royal Danish Academy of Music (RDAM) offers a two-year Master’s programme in Voice specialising in opera. The program is provided in co-operation with The Royal Theatre. The purpose of the Master’s programme in Voice specialising in opera is to qualify the student for employment in Danish and international ensembles, opera companies and opera houses, as a performer in musical drama projects and opera choirs, and as an organiser of projects in the field of musical drama.
