We all have a high – and increasing – consumption of media in the form of TV, films, newspapers, the internet, mobiles. If you would like to find out how all this affects people, culture and society, Film and Media Studies is just the programme for you.

The MA in Film and Media Studies provides you with both broad and in-depth competencies for working with media and communication, also in intermedial contexts. Among other things, you will acquire knowledge on media aesthetics and genres, on the relationship between society, culture and media institutions, and the interplay between media, communication and recipients and users.

Please note that the MA in Film and Media Studies only offers the concentration in Film and Audiovisual Aesthetics taught in English.

Career Opportunities  

Film and Media Studies is an interdisciplinary Master's programme incorporating approaches from both the social sciences and the humanities. Your studies will be intermedial, while the teaching covers film, television and the digital media as well as radio and the printed media, but with the main focus on the audiovisual media. The purpose of the Master's programme is to acquire a high level of academic knowledge and skills within the fields of media, aesthetics and communication. By linking theory and practice, you are educated to solve concrete information and communication tasks and to work with communication to various groups of recipients and users in a media organisation.

The Master's degree provides a range of different career options. You may find employment within the communication sector and the film, TV, advertising and IT industry. Moreover, you will be qualified to work as a teacher or as a member of information and PR staff.

Admission Requirements  

To be considered qualified for the Master's programme in Film and Media Studies, an applicant has to have obtained credits within the field of film and media studies in a research-based environment. Emphasis is placed on theory, analysis, history, methodology and practice in the central elements of film and media studies. Applicants with a Bachelor's degree in media, communication and film studies are at an advantage for being admitted to the programme.

Admission to the programme is competitive and limited to 20 students. All applicants will be subject to an overall individual assessment and admission will be granted in accordance with the selection criteria published on the programme's website.

Tuition

Non-EU/EEA citizens are required to pay tuition for the entire 2-year programme.

Students nominated through an exchange programme are not required to pay tuition.
