Description

The programme aims at laying the conceptual basis by increasing the students’ competencies with respect to:

• building and applying advanced epidemiological knowledge of essential health factors
• assessing current research and implementing analyses on the state of health of populations
• applying a wide selection of communication techniques and tools in connection with primary and secondary prevention, health promotion initiatives as well as public health-related assignments
• evaluating implementations, performances and results of prevention and promotion measures
• analysing structures and institutional changes of health systems
• setting up theoretical solutions for concrete political and administrative problems in the field of health

Students are able to specialise within one of the following four main tracks: Health Promotion, Global Health, Risk Research or Health Economics and Management.

Career Opportunities

With a Master’s degree in Public Health Science you will be qualified to work with assignments within areas like:

• Health planning
• Health administration and analysis
• Development
• Planning
• Giving advise
• Teaching and doing research in relation to health prevention and health promotion

Potential jobs can be found in national and regional agencies and institutions as well as agencies and institutions of large municipalities - e.g. the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Ministry of Labour and their agencies, hospital and health managements together with social and health planning departments in counties and municipalities.

In addition, graduates can apply for jobs in national and international organisations dealing with prevention and combating of disease - e.g. WHO, the EU, Red Cross, the OECD and the World Bank.

Admission  

To be admitted to this programme, you must hold a bachelor’s degree within Health Sciences such as:

• Public Health
• Medicine
• Biomechanics
• Sports Science
• Human Biology
• Dentistry

A professional bachelor within Health Sciences such as:

• Nursing
• Physiotherapy
• Ergonomics
• Nutrition
• Midwife
• Biomedical laboratory technician
• Global Nutrition and Health

Tuition Fees and Scholarships

No tuition fees for EU/EEA/Swiss students.
There is a tuition fee for all full-time degree students who hold a citizenship from outside of EU/EAA/Switzerland.

SDU offers 75 scholarships yearly. The scholarship consists of two parts: full tuition fee waiver and a grant, to help cover living costs amounting to $ 950 per month before taxes. Candidates must come from a non-EU/EEA country and be eligible to pay tuition fees. The scholarship will be awarded to the best qualified of the eligible applicants. All eligible applicants who are offered a study place, will automatically be considered for the scholarship. No separate application is needed. The best-qualified candidates based on points will be awarded the scholarship.
