About the programme

Due to the global reach of the United States, most Europeans have the impression that they “know” America, which is often perceived as a single culture, with little recognition of the complexity and variety that are characteristic of the nation.

American Studies is a two year MA programme that focuses on the world's leading superpower. It looks at culture, politics, economics, literature, and society in a country of more than 300 million inhabitants in fifty distinct states.

It represents an interdisciplinary study that draws on several disciplines in order to ensure that students can understand and analyse American cultural identities and the changing relationship between the United States and the rest of the world. The programme is intended to give you a broad spectrum of knowledge within the American Studies discipline.

Courses are taught by internationally recognised researchers who cover all aspects of American history, culture, politics, social studies, transnationalism, and literature.

Course Content
The first semester requires all students to take three courses – one in history, one in cultural studies, and one in Theory and Method in American Studies.

During the second semester, students take two thematic courses, one in history and politics, the other in literature and culture studies. For the remaining 10 ECTS, students may take up either an elective or an internship.

The majority of elective courses are in participating departments, including history, political science, English, media studies, religion, journalism, and marketing.

During the third semester, many students choose to complete internships either in Denmark or abroad, or spend the semester on exchange at a university overseas. SDU has many exchange agreements with American universities.

You must hold a Bachelor's degree in a related subject. Previous backgrounds have included History, Politics, English Studies, Journalism and Law.

Students with other Bachelor´s degrees deemed of relevance by the Study Board will likewise be granted access to the MA in American Studies.

Tuition Fees and Scholarships

No tuition fees for EU/EEA/Swiss students.
There is a tuition fee for all full-time degree students who hold a citizenship from outside of EU/EAA/Switzerland.

SDU offers 75 scholarships yearly. The scholarship consists of two parts: full tuition fee waiver and a grant, to help cover living costs amounting to $ 950 per month before taxes. Candidates must come from a non-EU/EEA country and be eligible to pay tuition fees. The scholarship will be awarded to the best qualified of the eligible applicants. All eligible applicants who are offered a study place, will automatically be considered for the scholarship. No separate application is needed. The best-qualified candidates based on points will be awarded the scholarship.

Today, computer simulations have become an indispensable tool in research, to increase our understanding of nature, as well as in the design and development of industrial services and products. As an applied mathematician, you will work with computer simulations of challenging and complex phenomena, with job openings in many different kinds of private businesses, as well as universities and other research institutions.

As for mathematicians in general, unemployment among applied mathematicians is virtually unknown. The master’s degree in Applied Mathematics aims towards employment in the private business sector or at research institutions. About the programme

An applied mathematician is often motivated by a problem outside the realm of mathematics. An applied mathematician masters, and is capable of developing the mathematical tools that have helped create the modern society of industry and information.

An applied mathematician can:
-comprehend a complex problem
-make a credible model of the problem
-analyse and calculate the consequences of the model
-implement algorithms belonging to the model on a computer.

This Master programme has a high level of flexibility meaning that the only mandatory part of the programme is 10 ECTS of constituent Master courses within the areas Mathematics and Statistics and Algorithms and Optimisation. In addition there are 20 ECTS of elective courses where you can choose between all Master courses within science.

The programme contains a perspectival module where it is possible to take an internship, go abroad on exchange or to specialise by following elective courses.

The 60 ECTS master thesis gives you plenty of time to specialise in a topic within applied mathematics. The thesis is carried out with a supervisor and it is concluded with an oral presentation.

Every day, a massive amount of patient data is generated and recorded on a global scale. Artificial Intelligence (AI) has the power to automatically process all this complex data and use it to improve the accuracy and quality of healthcare services, and to generate innovative solutions in this sector. It can therefore be used in a variety of settings and disease conditions for e.g., the improvement of diagnosis and treatment decisions, prediction of clinical outcomes, patient monitoring and development of medical devices. This course will introduce students to the fundamentals and applications of AI in the healthcare environment, by offering the chance of working with different types of health data, such as structured patient journals, medical imaging results, and time-series. Techniques used to handle health data, as well as selective AI algorithms suited for the problems, will be explored across real-life challenges within the healthcare setting. Focus will be given to supervised machine learning algorithms, e.g. classification, regression.

Mandatory prerequisites:
Completion of minimum two years of a related engineering programme, this also includes Computer Science and Data Science.

Recommended prerequisites:
The students should have some rudimentary knowledge in programming and have passed an introductory course in statistics and mathematics (or equivalent).

About the Degree

Working in business enterprises or organisations with an international orientation, one may seldom rely on knowledge of economics and business administration alone. The aim of the course is to enable the student to understand the underlying biology based on its chemical building blocks and their interactions, which is important in regard to designing better medicines that improve the quality of human life.

Students will learn about the chemical structures and properties of the three main classes of biomolecules – nucleic acids, proteins and lipids – and learn how each of them can play a role in therapeutics, diagnostics or biotechnology. Through lectures, tutorials and laboratory exercises, the course will provide a comprehensive approach to design, synthesis and analysis of natural and unnatural function of important classes of biomolecules.

As a chemist, you can find employment in a number of fields within the industry. Sustainability is one of the key issues of today’s society as confirmed by increasing attention of governments, media, academics and industry. The idea of the Circular Economy is underpinned by systems approaches to the complex issues of sustainability. This requires the adoption of innovative approaches in educating both the engineering and business students to take their place in the economy of the future, incorporating systems thinking and collaboration skills.
Hence, the main goal of the summer school course is to zoom in on the circular economy principles and the SDG framework in order to support businesses with practical tools in facing sustainability related global challenges. This course will apply the Design and systems approach to solve business and engineering tasks. To help companies to gain sustainable competitive advantage through their businesses, students will learn about the concepts such as CE, SDG, and their implementation in supply chain management. Additionally, the course introduces how companies can work with specific tools, strategies and technologies in different supply chain activities (i.e., procurement, manufacturing, logistics and warehouse) in order to support companies embracing sustainability and help them to move towards the SDG roadmap. The course sessions use traditional teaching, case-based real-life problems solving tasks, and industrial visits.

About the programme

This two year MSc links directly to current global and national challenges, such as the economic crisis, immigration and changing family models.
Our international group of teachers from the Centre of Welfare State Research will provide you with state of the art knowledge on international public policy and politics relating to welfare and give you the skills to utilize theories and master different methods.
Through hands on experience you gain competencies in analysing welfare states in a comparative and global perspective.

At the University of Southern Denmark, we offer a special variation of the Economics and Business Administration programme, which is designed for those who hold certain AP Degrees. The programme is based on credit transfer from the AP programme, and consists of 90 ECTS of study. The programme starts each year 1 September.

The business world is becoming increasingly internationalised. Today, this goes not only for major conglomerates, but for many small and medium-sized companies as well. This development often challenges the current understanding of business economics and language skills.

This programme enables you to kill two birds with one stone, so to speak. You will obtain solid language skills in addition to a comprehensive knowledge of business economics, in a global as well as a regional context. Here, students of many different nationalities study alongside Danish students, creating a truly international atmosphere on campus.

Structure

The programme addresses all of the basic subject areas of Business Administration, i.e. courses developed at university level in Organisation, Corporate Finance, Marketing, Accounting, Business Law, Business IT, Statistics as well as Micro- and Macro-economics. In line with internationalisation and the spread of the internet, there is a growing need for graduates with skills in English – in private business, too. It is, therefore, a myth that a degree in English is directed solely at future teaching at high school – a fact that is also evident in the revised syllabus for English at Odense.

On the English course you will get a chance to acquire specialist knowledge in a variety of self-chosen disciplines, allowing your courses to be tailored to your particular needs and wishes.

The degree in English at Odense provides an in-depth course in English language and culture with emphasis on the United Kingdom, Ireland and USA as well as references to cultures within the remainder of the English-speaking world (e.g. South Africa, Canada and Australia) and to the international language of our time.

There is a tuition fee for all full-time degree students who hold a citizenship from outside of EU/EAA/Switzerland.

SDU offers 75 scholarships yearly. The scholarship consists of two parts: full tuition fee waiver and a grant, to help cover living costs amounting to $ 950 per month before taxes. Candidates must come from a non-EU/EEA country and be eligible to pay tuition fees. The scholarship will be awarded to the best qualified of the eligible applicants. All eligible applicants who are offered a study place, will automatically be considered for the scholarship. No separate application is needed. The best-qualified candidates based on points will be awarded the scholarship.

Description

Exploiting natural and environmental resources, such as fossil fuels, minerals, fish or land, is inherently problematic. Environmental and Resource Management is about solving environmental problems.You will study the interaction and the conflicts between the environment, nature and the society. And you will learn to solve these conflicts by economical, political and technical means. Management courses will teach you how to perform as a leader.

You will work on projects covering everything from idea, analysis, solution and implementation. Projects could be e.g. to investigate an urban areas possibility for reducing CO2 emissions from its transportation sector or to find out whether it is possible from both a technical and economical point of view to have 100% coverage of renewable energy in isolated places.The programme includes social science as well as technical and natural science courses and is based on mandatory and elective courses.

Teaching varies between lectures, classroom instruction and project work together with other students. Students are encouraged to participate in class discussions.

As an EMTM student, you will spend one semester at each of the three European universities before writing your final thesis. Description

The BSc in Flensburg and Sønderborg combines business economics and business language (English and Danish), and qualifies you for internationally-oriented jobs in private enterprises as well as in public organisations.

The programme is offered in cooperation with the University of Flensburg, and is based in both Flensburg and Sønderborg. This means that it has a significant international focus, both in terms of the subjects taught and in terms of the study environment.

The international focus is reflected in the double degree that you will obtain upon graduation: a German as well as a Danish bachelor degree.

Programme Structure

This Bachelor is a three-year programme, with the first two years spent studying introductory and compulsory modules across languages, economics, work psychology, accounting, law, statistics, marketing, theory of social sciences, and many more. These modules are intended to provide a solid foundation upon which to move into the third year, where you can study more specialised elective modules or study at a university abroad, and spend the final semester with a focus on writing your Bachelor project.

SDU offers 75 scholarships yearly. The scholarship consists of two parts: full tuition fee waiver and a grant, to help cover living costs amounting to $ 950 per month before taxes. Candidates must come from a non-EU/EEA country and be eligible to pay tuition fees. The scholarship will be awarded to the best qualified of the eligible applicants. All eligible applicants who are offered a study place, will automatically be considered for the scholarship. No separate application is needed. The best-qualified candidates based on points will be awarded the scholarship.

This master programme educates designers who can work in multidisciplinary teams that develop interactive IT products and services for private and public organisations. Two Specialisations.

Participatory Innovation educates students in how to critically understand and facilitate a product and service innovation process in a complex social context with a range of stakeholders. Tuition Fees and Scholarships

No tuition fees for EU/EEA/Swiss students.
There is a tuition fee for all full-time degree students who hold a citizenship from outside of EU/EAA/Switzerland.

SDU offers 75 scholarships yearly. The scholarship consists of two parts: full tuition fee waiver and a grant, to help cover living costs amounting to $ 950 per month before taxes. Candidates must come from a non-EU/EEA country and be eligible to pay tuition fees. The scholarship will be awarded to the best qualified of the eligible applicants. All eligible applicants who are offered a study place, will automatically be considered for the scholarship. No separate application is needed. The best-qualified candidates based on points will be awarded the scholarship.

Optics, Sensors and Nanotechnology Optics is the science of light and colour. Especially during the past thirty years, optics has developed rapidly. The most significant reason for this ‘optical revolution’ is the invention and development of the many different lasers which are on the market today. The primary focus of the programme is the interaction between light and materials, nanophysics, sensors, nanotechnology, molecular physics and spectroscopy.

Physics is a very broad, scientific programme which opens the door to many different jobs: several of our graduates work as teachers and mediators at high schools, colleges etc., others hold research positions at universities in Denmark and abroad. About the programme

The master’s programme in Physics is strongly oriented towards both theoretical and experimental physics and enables you to excel in your preferred area of expertise.

Robots are getting smarter and smarter, and taking over a number of tasks for human beings, and there seems to be almost no end to the utilization of robots as novel robotics applications have been being explored and identified continually. This course will give students an overview of the commercially available robots, their application areas, and the state-of-the-art research activities in global robotics community and SDU MMMI research institute, and help students establish strong connection between robotics theory and applications. To this end, fundamentals in robotics will be introduced in the summer course including Kinematics, Dynamics, Control, i.e., KDC pillar modules in robotics, and more importantly, how these theories can be applied in real cases, which will be integrated into a hands-on mini project. In this mini project, you will have opportunity to work on UR (Universal Robots) robot arms for collision avoidance motion planning and control by using the learnt KDC fundamentals. The fundamentals covered in this summer course are mainly for robot arms, but some of them can be general for other types of robots as well.

Six Sigma has gained acceptance in industry as the de facto standard for structured and advanced problem solving. This course will enable you to participate in and run Six Sigma projects. You will learn the tools of Six Sigma which will be a mix of tools at green and black belt level. The teaching will be experimental in nature with a mix of hands-on exercises and more traditional calculations in statistical software like Excel or SAS JMP; no prior experience needed. Our universe presents us with a tantalizing riddle, namely to understand the structure of its “dark sector”. This sector includes the dark matter, which could be a new particle and/or black holes. The course will provide an introduction to the topic of dark matter as a whole and discuss some candidates. In the second part, the course links to the topic of neural networks, which are becoming powerful tools to tackle deep questions in fundamental physics, including the structure of the dark sector. Finally, networks show up in the fundamental physics of the universe in a different way, namely as a proposal for the deep structure of spacetime itself. This course will link a theoretical overview of some of the most exciting questions in fundamental physics with applications that bridge the gap to computer science and is suitable for students with a range of different backgrounds in physics (both applied and theoretical), computing and mathematics.

This summer course is a 5 ECTS block course with 10 intensive lecture/workshop-days in August complemented with readings, video materials and exercises (online). The MSc in IT – Web Communication Design is a master programme offered in English.

This MSc is a multi-disciplinary graduate programme that combines IT, communication, and organisation. We emphasise the interaction between humans and information technology, and combine research-based knowledge with interesting challenges.

The overall focus of the programme is on the opportunities and challenges of working with the web, regarding knowledge management and communication. In this course you will gain a solid theoretical understanding of wind power systems. There will be lectures in Electric Machines, Control, Power converters and Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC), and you will work with development of a simple power converter for wind power system. Here you will develop and characterize an electronic circuit board, supporting the operation of an electro-mechanical system and learn to apply simulation results in practice. Main topics are: Electromagnetic Compatibility, Printed Circuit Board design, Control, Power Converters and Electric Machines.

Recommended prerequisites:
The course is intended for students with an educational background in electrical engineering, electronics, mechatronics or similar. The following prerequisites are recommended:
- Fundamentals of Electronics
- Fundamentals of Control
- Basics of Project work and management

Admission/Tuition:
Exchange students from a partner university pay no tuition.
