The tech world was abuzz last week with the news that Skype – the popular VOIP system used to make free video calls and discounted phone calls – was purchased by Microsoft for a cool $8.5 billion.
Since the purchase, speculation has swirled about Microsoft’s plans for Skype. Will the service remain free? Will it continue to be available on Apple and Android operating systems? Was the purchase nothing more than a way of sticking a thumb in the eye of rivals Google and Facebook?
