Description

Nanotechnology can be used in numerous different contexts such as development of new materials and new technologies. The specialisation in Nanomaterials and Nanophysics focuses on designing, fabricating and controlling materials and components with dimensions on the nanoscale, i.e. from 1 to 100 nm. You will learn how nanotechnology can be used to develop new optic and electronic components and new materials for use in communications technology, sensor technology or catalysis. Furthermore, you will gain insight into the possibilities, issues and challenges that engineers within nanotechnology are faced with on a day-to-day basis. When studying the two-year Master’s programme Materials and Nanotechnology with specialisation in Nanomaterials and Nanophysics, you have the opportunity to investigate the fundamental science as well as the contemporary research that make up the field of nanotechnology. You have time to immerse yourself in topics you find particularly interesting and you can take a step back and look at the bigger picture.Applying the most advanced nanofabrication technology to materials makes it possible to obtain decisive control over their properties, and thereby construct unique materials and components with new and unexpected properties for applications within for example energy technology, communication, catalysis and data storage and processing.Studying Nanomaterials and Nanophysics, you get to work with the special electronic and optical characteristics of nanomaterials. Moreover, you gain insight into the development of nanotools and nanodevices.Key subjects in the programme include:
  • semiconductor physics
  • nanoelectronics
  • optoelectronics
  • nano optics
  • surface physics

Career Opportunities

Nanotechnology operates on the interfaces of traditional scientific areas. It has already contributed substantially to the understanding of interdisciplinary phenomena within science and engineering. Therefore, it is rapidly gaining ground in the traditional engineering areas such as material science, electronics, energy, and technology in general.

With a Master’s degree in
Nanomaterials and Nanophysics, you can enter any of these engineering fields and contribute with new knowledge and methods as well as look at different ideas from a new perspective, which can help to develop new products.

Admission

A relevant Bachelor’s degree in natural sciences or materials science is necessary in order to be accepted for enrollment. Each applicant will receive individual assessment by the Study Board in charge of the Nanotechnology education at Aalborg University. It is recommended to have a solid background in physics.

In addition, documentation will be required to verify that your proficiency in English is at an acceptable level.
