Description

The MSc programme in Mobility & Urban Studies is for students motivated to gain the technical skills associated with engineering as well as the theoretical based reflection of social science to understand, design or plan mobility in and around cities. In short, to become a “reflecting technologist” that approaches mobilities as more than simply movement and within it offers a cross-disciplinary mobility-profession based on the new mobilities turn.

Mobility & Urban studies integrates the diverse challenges that are related to an increasing physical mobility (traffic and transportation by car, plane or train alike), increased use of virtual mobility (mobile phones and smart transport systems), increasing social mobility (tourism and migration) and environmentally friendly and sustainable modes of transportation (e.g. bicycle cultures or bike lanes in Copenhagen).

The Mobilities & Urban Studies programme enables graduates to examine, integrate and design new solutions related to technological, environmental and urban planning challenges, as well as economic, organizational, political, and social strategies - all related to the field of mobilities.

You are able to undertake an internship or do an external study on 3rd semester. Read more about this possibility.

Career Opportunities

Whether students plan to do research at universities or work in the private sector or public institutions, Mobilities & Urban Studies at Aalborg University offers a leading and international oriented academic education focused on mobilities - one of few in fact.

In the public sector, on state and municipal levels alike, there is a demand for mobility graduates with skills to analyse and plan for new ways to organise social mobilities that are moving towards resource optimisation, sustainable mobilities systems and a more equal distribution of mobilities resources.

In the private sector, there is a great need for knowledge, proficiencies and competencies related to working out technological and strategic mobilities solutions that are able to satisfy the increasing demand for mobility within new resource restrictions.

Moreover, private NGOs and other organisations (e.g. within tourism) also offer employment opportunities. Large private logistics, transportation and tourism businesses are options. Consulting engineering firms and consultancies will also require graduates with a Master’s degree in Mobilitiy and Urban Studies.
