Rhythmic Music Conservatory (RMC) is an educational institution under the Danish Ministry of Culture and works on a non-commercial basis. RMC was founded in 1986 as the first music academy in Europe to specialize in contemporary rhythmic music.
RMC offers the highest education in contemporary rhythmic music - a multifaceted concept that embraces widely diverse genres such as rock, pop, jazz, urban, metal and electronic music.
Contemporary rhythmic music is a creative and performative art that builds upon a solid foundation in professional and cultural traditions. At RMC contemporary rhythmic music means openness, curiosity, diversity and a critical position.
Our alumni are widely acclaimed artists and business professionals in the music industry. With only 200 student places in total we admit only the very talented. Once accepted students will have full access to state-of-the-art facilities and a faculty of teachers who are all experienced and active professionals in their field.
We aim to educate music professionals with the necessary skills and knowledge to meet the increasing demands of the contemporary music industry. Our curriculum provides the students with ample opportunity to hone their skills in composing, performing, producing and communicating music within their individual field of interest.The school offers a modern take on education allowing you to shape your studies according to your wishes and incorporating studies at other educational institutions in Denmark or abroad, internships or the like. More than that, the school offers a lively study environment and state of the art study facilities.
RMC has a close-knit cooperation with national and international music industry partners, venues, festivals, music academies and art schools.

The Advanced Postgraduate Diploma programme (APD) is a two-year training programme that qualifies the student as an instrumentalist or vocalist at the highest artistic level. The objective of the programme is to equip the student with further qualifications for the employment market by augmenting the student's Masters degree with comprehensive studies in one or more artistic areas of research chosen by the candidate her/himself.
During the programme, the student will get experience and insight into self-dependent artistic research (practice based research) work and having the capacity to identify and contextualize current dynamic issues in one’s field. Furthermore, the student will achieve the ability to transfer one’s artistic practice and research capabilities to other fields and recognize any associated career opportunities, locally and globally.
The programme’s core focus will be on the student’s capacity to extend our artistic understanding and to communicate those insights in a fully realized manner.
The programme is aimed at professional musicians who have completed a Masters programme in rhythmic music, or who possess equivalent qualifications of the same standard, such as an artistic career at a high professional level.

The Composition programme is aimed at composers and songwriters who see themselves as future innovators in the field of popular music as a contemporary artistic expression.The programme takes its starting-point in the student's vision, and aims to further develop the individual's artistic and educational profile. The student becomes part of a diverse and inspirational learning environment in which teachers, tutors and fellow students stimulate and challenge the student's development. The programme takes the form of a mixture of scheduled classes and intense project periods, and via the Conservatory’s extensive cooperation with external partners in Denmark and abroad, students obtain access to an extensive professional network that will enhance their future employment opportunities as composers or songwriters, educators and entrepreneurs in a changing music industry.
The Bachelor programme in Composition has two special subject areas:
1. Instrumental/electronic Composition

The Master’s in Music Creation is a two-year programme that provides you with an opportunity to immerse yourself in the further development of your artistic profile in the area of music creation – composition, songwriting or music production. The programme focuses on creating musical works, and you are to a large extent able to shape the programme in accordance with your artistic profile and development. The programme offers plenty of opportunity for you to hone your skills as a creative, performing musician and to develop new ideas through an inquiring practice. You will have access to individual guidance related to your educational goals; you can get involved in collaborative projects across RMC’s own programmes as well as at other artistic schools at Holmen, Copenhagen; and as a part of the programme, you must organize a self-planned external semester. The programme also place emphasis on developing your entrepreneurial skills, and will give you direct access to RMC’s extensive national and international networks.

The Master’s in Music Education is a two-year music pedagogical programme which qualifies you at advanced level as a music teacher. The programme focuses – based on your artistic profile – on developing your pedagogical skills, your competencies in educational project development and project management as well as your individual artistic and pedagogical profile. The course will link relevant theory to your pedagogical projects. Practical teaching projects – independent and prearranged by RMC - are an integral part of the programme. A range of elective subjects, also offers you possibilities to accustom the programme contents to your own wishes. Furthermore, the programme places emphasis on developing your entrepreneurial skills, and offers you direct access to RMC’s extensive national and international networks.

Music Management is a study programme for people who are passionate about being part of the music industry of the future. Music Management qualifies the student to work in management, development and operations in the music industry, and in related areas of the experience and cultural industries. The study programme is interdisciplinary and combines theory and practice in the interface between social studies and the arts. Study trips and internships help to strengthen the student’s networks, both in Denmark and abroad, and the study environment at RMC itself offers fruitful interdisciplinary relationships across the boundaries of the Conservatory’s various study programmes.

EUJAM is a two-year programme and specialisation option within the Master's programme Music Performance, which is operated jointly with leading music academies in Berlin, Paris, Amsterdam and Trondheim. The programme is aimed at elite jazz musicians and composers. It includes compulsory semesters abroad, and is designed to further qualify you for the employment market by giving you a strong personal network among the leading European jazz musicians of the future. You acquire first-hand knowledge of educational cultures and music scenes in the cities in the collaboration, and under the influence of the teachers you encounter in the various educational institutions, you also acquire a broad education on your instrument.

The purpose of the study programme is to educate music producers who have a personal voice and vast experience with the craftsmanship and artistic methods belonging to the field of music production. In detail the field of the education includes the close, creative cooperative relationship between artists, song writers, musicians, composers, A&R’s and more.A student in music production develops and examines how to create a product of a musical performance typically in the form of concerts and in the studio. Each project will define what a music producer has to do to create the best conditions in realizing the artistic intention. The tools used can come from different areas and range from sound engineering, dialogue, feedback, composition, work on lyric, arrangement, mixing etc. However, the focal point is the ability to communicate and create results together with and through others.On the basis of basic theoretical knowledge about music production, solid skills and far reaching artistic and interdisciplinary competencies, graduates work professionally with music production.The study programme takes its starting-point in the student, and aims to further develop the individual’s artistic and educational profile. You will become part of a diverse and inspirational learning environment in which teachers, tutors and fellow students will challenge and stimulate the student’s individual development.
