The Department of Biology has strong foundations in research with special focus on Environmental Stress, Sound Communication and Behaviour, Ecology, Evolutionary Biodemography, Arctic Biology and Earth Evolution. Biologists are employed in positions within a wide range of areas ranging from biotechnology, pharmaceutical companies and the environment to biological production within agriculture and the fishing industry. The skills you will obtain in this degree will also place you in excellent standing to enter professions such as journalism, teaching, medical laboratory work, forensic science or nature conservation.About the programme
This is a two-year programme. During the first year, the classes insure that you achieve a broad suite of competences relevant to biology. During the second year, the primary emphasis is research, the result of which will become your individual MSc thesis.You can choose to focus on the topics you find particularly interesting. You can either opt for a broad profile or specialise in one of the following fields:
•Animal sound communication and behaviour
•Environmental biology
•Marine science
The courses are mainly experimental, involve group work, and several include fieldwork, taking advantage of the easy access to our terrestrial, fresh water and marine field stations.
You have a unique opportunity to obtain a commercial diving certificate as part of the MSc programme in Biology.
Admission
To be admitted to this programme, you must hold a bachelor's degree in biology or another degree based on at least three years of higher education after the high school level with good grades. Qualifications in biology corresponding to at least 60 ECTS, including the following subject areas:•The structures and functions of biomolecules and cells.
•The systematics, structures, development and functions of organisms.
•The interaction between organisms and their environment.
•The evolution of life.
Fundamental knowledge of mathematics, chemistry and statistics.

In addition, documentation may be required verifying that your proficiency in English is at a specified level.

Tuition Fees and Scholarships
No tuition fees for EU/EEA/Swiss students.There is a tuition fee for all full-time degree students who hold a citizenship from outside of EU/EAA/Switzerland.
SDU offers 75 scholarships yearly. The scholarship consists of two parts: full tuition fee waiver and a grant, to help cover living costs amounting to $ 950 per month before taxes. Candidates must come from a non-EU/EEA country and be eligible to pay tuition fees. The scholarship will be awarded to the best qualified of the eligible applicants. All eligible applicants who are offered a study place, will automatically be considered for the scholarship. No separate application is needed. The best-qualified candidates based on points will be awarded the scholarship.
