Description

Design for People is aimed at students who are professionally bold, possess a social and societal awareness, wish to adopt an exploratory, critical and open-minded approach and want to focus their design practices on social agendas in an interdisciplinary forum.
We teach theory, processes and methods to make you develop design projects which can solve human, social and societal challenges.

You learn to

• use stakeholder involvement as a foundation for better design solutions
• master complexity when designing within the human, social and societal challenges
• design relations for improved living conditions

We work with thematic approaches such as empathic design, critical design, speculative design, participatory design, co-design and transformative design. You will explore new ways to address visions of a socially sustainable future by focusing on design, users, stakeholders, creativity, empathy, ethics, complex problem solving, and critical thinking. You will also be skilled to enter the complex space between people and technology, with the aim to make new technology desirable for future users.

Design for People reinforces and challenges the fields of industrial design, fashion design, textile design, accessory design and communication design.

Career Opportunities  

Specialising in Design for People will equip you with knowledge and skills to challenge the status quo and point towards a more socially sustainable future.
Design processes and design methodology can make a difference in all areas of society. Depending on your speciality, you can choose to work with e.g. fashion, jewellery, shoes, interior or graphic design, and perhaps you will be able to get a job at e.g. Ecco or LEGO, which are some of Design School Kolding’s regular collaboration partners. In addition, your training gives you a variety of general competences that can also get you a job in areas that you do not usually associate with design, for instance health care, local government, etc.

Tuition

Description

Design for Planet is for those who are professionally bold and curious and who want to direct their practice towards sustainable agendas. 
The Programme enables you to adopt sustainability as a fundamental mindset. This allows you to create new and relevant products and services that are valuable and meaningful to users, along with new business developments within for instance circular economy and sharing economy. 
We apply innovative practical working methods within a wide range of topics such as: past use and production practices, user studies, material driven design, speculative prototyping, critical design, holistic systems, circular and sharing economy, design activism and cultural intervention. 
Design for Planet offers the opportunity to work with design of materials, products, services, systems, experiences and cultural changes. Hence, throughout the course, students will be acquainted with different design contexts and designer roles.

Design for Planet reinforces and challenges the fields of industrial design, fashion design, textile design, accessory design and communication design.

Career Opportunities  

Either as an employee in a company, an organisation, or an institution or as self-employed, you can design and develop products, including communication, that focus on sustainability. 

The programme prepares you to have a systemic approach to working with sustainability in production and use. This could involve circular economy, product lifespan and new services in the private and public sectors. This enables you to help develop sustainable strategies and change within companies and organisations throughout the value chain. 

Your experiences with holistic thinking and process planning in relation to many types of approaches to sustainability along with your experiences with cross-disciplinary collaborations could also make you a valued consultant. 

In addition, the programme prepares you to pursue an academic career.

Description

Design for Play is for students who like to explore new paths and challenge themselves and others through playful experiences. You will become a frontrunner for new ways of designing in a society that is increasingly requiring more and better creative competences.
You will experience play as a motivational factor in design and development processes and get to design play experiences for people of all ages. You will build on your basic design discipline and design for play using relevant knowledge, tools and methods.

You will work in cross-disciplinary groups and on various levels with external partners and learn to:

• analyse, identify and design specific play experiences
• use play to support development, learning and experiences 
• design relevant play as seen from a children’s and user perspective
• be aware of different play cultures
• develop and intervene in processes using a playful approach
• work with play systematically and through research and theory 

The programme was established with the LEGO Foundation and the LEGO Group and is the world’s first, exclusive two-year international Master’s Degree programme within Design for Play.

Career Opportunities  

You can get a job in many types of industries and organisations depending on your interests and competence profile. You can design children's products, for instance at LEGO, HABA, Kompan, Ikea and Toca Boca. Or you can design playful experiences in museums, experience parks, schools and hospitals. You will be able to contribute with playful approaches in design companies and design agencies at product, process and strategy levels. Your experiences with play for all ages will make you a suited ambassador for play within NGOs such as The LEGO Foundation, UNICEF, etc. The programme also qualifies you to pursue an academic career in universities and design schools, and to become a facilitator, teacher or communicator in design and play.
