Description

Graduates of computational biomedicine are able to understand and reflect on knowledge regarding the integration and application of computational methods in the life sciences, including molecular biology, structural biology, genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, and bioinformatics.

Computational Biomedicine focuses on the application and development of computational biology and bioinformatics methods for the analysis of next-generation molecular datasets gathered on an ever-increasing scale in hospitals around the world.

This programme will provide you with the skills necessary to drive this exciting future market as a biomedical data analyst and/or developer of innovative biomedical computer science solutions. This will allow you to contribute in shaping the future of computer-assisted medicine.

During the first year, you will combine compulsory and elective courses with a research period in either Systems Biology or Bioinformatics.

The former focuses on large-scale omics datasets, biological networks, and advanced modelling, whereas the latter focuses on sequence analysis, and structure and function studies of biomolecules, as well as translational medicine, and epidemiology.

Career Opportunities  

In the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries, the healthcare sector, and at universities, there is growing demand for graduates who are fully versed in the use of computers and special software in the biological and biomedical fields.

In addition, skills within the modelling of complex dynamic systems and knowledge of statistical methods also provides career opportunities in consultancy, patent agencies, and in some cases, the banking sector.

If you want to work in research, a Master’s from the University of Southern Denmark is a solid foundation for continuing onto a PhD.

Admission

To be admitted to this programme, you must hold a bachelor’s degree in natural science, or another relevant degree based on at least three years of higher education after high school level.

Students will be qualified for admission after an individual assessment by the Study Board.

Tuition Fees and Scholarships

No tuition fees for EU/EEA/Swiss students.
There is a tuition fee for all full-time degree students who hold a citizenship from outside of EU/EAA/Switzerland.

SDU offers 75 scholarships yearly. The scholarship consists of two parts: full tuition fee waiver and a grant, to help cover living costs amounting to $ 950 per month before taxes. Candidates must come from a non-EU/EEA country and be eligible to pay tuition fees. The scholarship will be awarded to the best qualified of the eligible applicants. All eligible applicants who are offered a study place, will automatically be considered for the scholarship. No separate application is needed. The best-qualified candidates based on points will be awarded the scholarship.
